Construction of Mayfield Retirement Village in Watford progresses
Progress is being made as a new luxury retirement village reaches its next phase of construction.
Mayfield Watford launched a closing ceremony to mark the completion of the outer buildings of the village which is part of the major development in Riverwell, near Watford General Hospital.
The development will house 255 properties, centered around the Mayfield Club, and will include a bar, bistro, swimming pool, party hall, fitness rooms and spa.
Watford MP Dean Russell was invited to the ceremony to see the progress being made in the village and to plant a tree to mark the next phase of construction.
The village would be the first in the UK to meet the growing demand for modern and mid-level retirement options.
Of the properties already on the market, 30% have been sold or reserved.
Mr Russell said: “It has been a really enjoyable day and I am happy to be here to mark the next step in such an important development.
“Mayfield Watford will bring much needed age-appropriate housing to the city, especially with care facilities available. This is something we need so badly.
“The facilities are also wonderful. Personally, I can’t wait to come back when it opens to enjoy the bistro, after tasting some of the dishes on offer today. ”
Watford Mayor Peter Taylor also said: “I am delighted that our vision of creating a vibrant new neighborhood in Watford Riverwell includes the village of Mayfield, which provides locals with an exciting and high quality option for life. retired.
“This milestone for Mayfield is a milestone in our overall ambitions for Riverwell. I know people who move here will find it a great place to live, offering something for everyone, regardless of age or interests.
The government housing agency Homes England announced last month that £ 40million in funding will go towards the construction of the retirement village.
Nick Sanderson, CEO of Audley Group Developers, said: “The completion of the external construction phase of Mayfield Watford is a proud moment for many of us. There is a real shortage of villages like this in the UK and an aging population that deserves better choices. We are delighted to have made this choice available to those who live in and around the Watford area, and to be a part of this incredible regeneration program at Watford Riverwell.
“Today’s ceremony was a great opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of everyone working on the project, from craftspeople to architects. We look forward to completing the interior design and welcoming our first Mayfield owners to this fantastic village.
