The construction of the first model village of Balasore raises questions
Jaleswar: The construction works of a model village have started in Olinda under the Jaleswar block in Balasore for the landless and homeless population. This is the first project of this type in the neighborhood.
Housing units in the model village are developed for 62 tribal people under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Housing is being installed on a built surface of 250 m² and will be given to each beneficiary.
However, it has been alleged that the build quality has been under a cloud. Regarding the model project, BDO Nityananda Sahu said that the district administration decided to provide a housing unit at a cost of Rs 1.20 lakh to poor families each on two decimal places of land and that the model village is carried out under the direct supervision of the administration.
“It is the first model village of Balasore. Each accommodation has a bedroom and a kitchen. In addition, two roads have been developed for commuting, access roads to each house, ”he added.
In addition, the model village will have community toilets, a garden, a pond and a playground while a school and drinking water facilities will be provided in the future, he said. he declares.
The BDO also said that each beneficiary built their own house.
Some journalists visited the model village but were not impressed with the way the construction was undertaken. Residents alleged that substandard building materials were used and that the durability of the houses was in doubt.
They observed that more funds should be allocated to maintain quality work. They caught the attention of the Collector and the Project Director.
