The ‘North Quarter’ sold under deals that could see 200 North Wales houses built by developers


A university has sold two major sites with a project of more than 200 housing units.

Estate agent Legat Owen said he made two deals in Wrexham on behalf of Glyndwr University for more than £ 9million.

The first was a site called “Quartier Nord” – which is located next to the main university campus and close to the Plas Coch retail park.

It was sold to Edwards Homes for a price of over £ 3million.

Legat Owen showcased the 7-acre site, which had planning permission for up to 410 apartments on the market as of July 2019.

Following an extensive marketing campaign, the University accepted a planning offer from Edwards Homes that changed the planning consent from 410 apartments to 90 traditional houses, which includes an affordable 25% layout. .

“The University, Wrexham Borough Council and Edwards Homes have worked together successfully to provide a mix of family and startup homes in this highly sustainable inner city outskirts.”

In a separate transaction, Legat Owen completed the sale of an 11.8-acre site on Gatewen Road in the village of New Broughton, to Bellway Homes North West for more than £ 6million.

The site has benefited from a planning permit for up to 112 housing units, including an affordable 25% provision.

Ben added, “We have generated considerable interest from a variety of home builders on this site. A strong appetite for tenders demonstrated the continued demand for high quality housing sites in and around Wrexham.

Lynda Powell, Executive Director of Operations at Wrexham Glyndwr University, said: “Over the past three years, the University has already invested over £ 20million to improve facilities and the learning environment. of our students.

“The sale of these land assets, which were surplus to our needs, provides us with significant cash flow which will be reinvested in our university campuses in North East Wales as part of our Campus 2025 strategy.”
