Village community devastated after young father was found dead in woods
A village community has been crippled after a young father and a Huddersfield Town fan were found dead in the woods of Honley.
The father of three, Sam Kennedy, 33, a plasterer and builder, who was married to Vicki, was discovered shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday and the scene was cordoned off while emergency services were present.
The death is not considered suspicious and West Yorkshire Police have now turned the case over to the coroner.
Mr Kennedy’s father, Mike, said the family were too upset to speak to ExaminerLive, but kindly provided a photo of his son, who lived in Meltham.
A middle-aged woman who knows the family said: “There will be a lot of shocked people in the village. It came out of the blue.
“He was a calm family man that you always saw with their children. He kept himself to himself.”
Her friend added: “This is very sad news and everyone in the village is very upset about what has happened.
“It’s very tight-knit here and Sam and Vicki were both very popular.”
On the day Mr Kennedy’s body was found West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Police were called at around 8:14 am this morning to go to the woods off Meltham Road, Honley, after the discovery of a man’s body by a member of the public.
“Emergency services are present and investigations are ongoing, but the death is currently not treated as a suspect.”
An inquest will be opened in the coming days at Bradford Coroner’s Court.
